HEART+LAND: A DEEP DIVE IMMERSION
Let's be honest, handpan festivals and the workshops that take place during them are incredible! But do you find yourself wanting to learn more? Having the opportunity to deepen your connection with the handpan in a handpan immersion WHILE at a handpan festival sounds like the experience for you.
During the Heart+Land Immersion, we’ll spend 8-hours (or 6-hours) together, where you’ll learn various techniques to support your playing, grounding you in your unique flow so that you can play with greater comfort and confidence. We’ll also go over common ways to start and build your own grooves & patterns while generating inspiration through improvisation, mindfulness & awareness techniques. We will also talk about composition and introduce some ways to, tastefully, blend the technical and melodic elements of handpan playing. We’ll also go over some specific grooves and fills, practice routines, phrasing, structure, and much more.
Only 2025 Heartland Handpan HangOut attendees are eligible to attend the Deep Dive Immersion. No matter your playing level or stylistic preference, the Heart+Land 8-hour Immersion will provide great benefits to your playing ... the handpan and in life.

Dan Mulqueen shares about the upcoming immersion
Oftentimes, during handpan workshops especially at handpan festivals, I’ve found myself having to choose between teaching more composition techniques OR more technical playing…percussive integration OR melodic structure…within the setting of a 3-day immersion, I feel super lucky to have the opportunity to show many aspects of handpan playing while also having ample time to answer your most detailed and specific questions.
A major topic in my teaching is connecting composition with technique. I’m very passionate about this and my approach for the Heart+Land Immersion is to integrate pre-planned lessons with time to answer questions that come up during our sessions. We also have the added bonus of being at the festival together for the weekend - so if any questions come to you in your playing/practice during the weekend, I’ll be around to answer whatever I can!
I am beyond excited for the opportunity to co-facilitate this immersion with my good friend, Peter Levitov, and to have the full support of Sarah, Addi and Max who are working tirelessly to put on another fantastic edition of Heartland Hangout! See you there!
Peter Levitov on how the handpan has reshaped his life
In 2008, I had an experience that changed my life forever. As I heard the sound of the handpan for the first time, something inside of me shifted. I couldn't quite grasp how, but I knew that everything I wanted to experience and understand was inside that sound. Almost two decades later, the handpan remains a constant source of inspiration and guidance, reminding me to breathe, listen, and feel deeply. I believe this art form offers an incredible gift to the world. It has the power to bring us together in creative community, where we learn, grow, and make beautiful music together. It's in these moments of connection and collaboration that we find the most joy and meaning in life.
I feel so lucky to share my love of the handpan at this year's Heartland Handpan HangOut & Immersion weekend, to hold space for exploration and growth, and to help others find their own path with this incredible instrument.
